Malleus Maleficarum

Oh, there was blackberry pie with whipped cream. And Rock band.
First off, let me just say.... YAY. SHOW. I liked Ruby from the first episode this season; and I hated M7. So... yeah. I don't know why I liked her; I think I liked the idea of a "helpful demon" because that's... pretty much what my idea of an angel could be. I have a bad habit of liking characters that are really, truly, intensely evil. Like Meg. So, there's that. But I'm feeling pretty good about Ruby 1) not being Satan and 2) being a generally helpful fluffy bunny.
So, without further ado, 5 Semi-Coherent Thoughts on Malleus Maleficarum:
1) RUBY. I like her tragic past, I like her knife, I like the fact that she uses the word short bus, I like that she makes Dean make funny faces, and I like that she's the most fantastic thing to ever fantastic upon the earth. Ms. Cassidy was awesome tonight; she totally held her own with those boys and I will hear no comments to the contrary! *covers ears and loudly sings la-la-la* *cough* But seriously, she was awesome. In fact, you know who she reminded me a lot of? Angel from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Yeah. That's right. I said it. *has been watching waaaaaay too much Buffy lately* I like the tragic tortured supposed-to-be-evil-but-not-really characters. They make my insides sing with happiness, and you know what? I hate saying these words, but.... I'm okay with her as a love interest. Then again, I liked Jo (but BUaBS was the first episode I saw her in and No Exit was the last so... take that as you will), but maybe not so much as a love interest. Point is, I'm starting to ramble.
2) I like that the show is taking demons in an entirely different direction. This adds... depth to a lot of stuff from previous seasons: YED saying Meg was his daughter--did she make a deal with him and that was his twisted way of having a family? If hell makes you more demonic, then it makes sense that Meg would be rather pissed after going there before BUaBS and thus attack Sam against the YED's wishes. It means John was in danger of becoming a demon--and one who would probably end up following the same thing that killed his wife. It's just... creepy and awesome and I really sorta love it. I love that THAT is the ultimate punishment--Dean can't even just go to hell and be finished. He's going to become something horrifically evil; he's realizing that he has a greater potential for "going darkside" than Sam possibly does.
Plus, it lends credence to what Kripke said about angels in this universe: they're regular people, just like the demons used to be.
This is, of course, assuming that Ruby isn't just lying about the whole thing. She is a demon, after all, and I do like her. Which, with my luck, probably damned her from the start. *sigh* XD
3) I like the title. Yeah, I said it, I like "Malleus Maleficarum". I like saying it. I feel Latin-y. *cough* I don't know what Latin-y means, really, but... umm... okay, onto the next point.
4) Okay, one thing I didn't like: gore. Just nasty gore. I'm fine with the (admittedly rather fake-looking) wrist-slitting and buckets of blood. Just please don't make people's teeth fall out or randomly place maggots in the burgers of unsuspecting men. It simply is not pleasant and does not help me to watch the screen during the show. Though, in retrospect, the maggots weren't that bad. I guess.
5) Music time! Finally, we get some music. Yes, it might be Poision, I Put A Spell On You (SQUEE), and a couple random references (BLACK SABBATH SQUEE), but you know what? I'll take it. I'm a little starved as of late. Bring back the Boston and Bad Company, Kripke! :D
Speaking of Black Sabbath, I sang War Pigs on Rock Band tonight. I am AWESOME.
I just... wow. That last scene was super depressing. And we had pie and everything. I feel kind of "bleh" now, but... I really, REALLY liked the episode. So.... yeah. I like this feeling. This feeling means I'm going to sit here and think and then draw pretty, pretty fanarts and possibly write stupid, stupid fanfic.
Is it wrong that whenever I watch SPN, I can pinpoint exactly what will turn into fanfic and declare it loudly among my IRL SPN friends? Yeah, I don't know either. :P
ETA: I just realized that the whole episode was depressing because 1) now we don't know how/if Dean will get out of his deal (Season Four: The adventures of Demon!Dean and Zombie!Sam! Tune in next week to see Bobby turn into a Wendigo, and Ellen the friendly ghost!) and 2) whether or not Ruby is evil. Sorry. I just... can't... accept it yet. I don't want to get my hopes all up and then have them crushed. *weeps*
But I did find the perfect solution! Dean/Ruby! They have angst, derogatory nicknames, and they're both (soon-to-be, at least) demons! Their love is so epic and evil! :D
Alright, I gotta go to sleep now cause I've got class in the morning and then I have to study all afternoon.
In closing, RUBY.
'Night.
